RE-MEMBER Penelope Smith
Many people in the Western world consider themselves as separate from the rest of Nature,
human spectators alienated from the whole web of life. They often do not recognize our
interdependence with all beings on Earth and that animals, plants, minerals, and all the
natural elements have much to teach us about balance and integration of spirit with form.
Telepathic connection with other species can be experienced as a spiritual journey helping us to:
In this age of rapid change, we are palpably moving as a species and as a planetary family to our next stage of evolution. So, the thrust of my teaching is not on mechanically instilling skills in animal communication but on guiding students into the core realization of who they are as spiritual beings in wholeness, connection and natural communication with all of life on Earth.
Other species never forget who they are as spiritual beings and as organisms fulfilling their function in the whole. In this innate consciousness and acceptance of their place in the greater scheme they have a fundamental joy, peace, and harmony.
Humans need to be reminded again and again, for we are the only ones who can forget and lose our way in our mental complexity. Our tribal ancestors knew that all species need each other to survive and flourish and consulted with the rest of Nature for guidance. Today, perhaps more than ever, humans need to re-member bring all the members back together again bring all the members back together again both the fragments of our inner nature and the members of human and other species tribes on Earth.
The state of our ecosystem and all the members in it, including and especially our domesticated animals and plants, reflect our whole and unhealed aspects, our vitality and our sickness. By paying attention and becoming more conscious of the state of being within and all around us, we can move with greater ease to our next level of evolution and wholeness as individuals, as a species, and as a planetary unity of Being.
While all creatures can be our teachers, the dolphins and whales may most appropriately lead the way by example for us in our particular journey as a species. They already have equal or greater complexity of brain and mind as humans have. Yet, they do not lose consciousness of their spiritual nature as they enjoy embodiment and they give us examples of living unity consciousness.
Non-human wisdom is tapped in many individuals' communications with animals, plants, and other forms of life. In a recent Advanced I Course, when asked to communicate with an animal that she felt repelled by, a student touched in on alligator essence. Unlike the images engendered by her human fears about alligators, she found them to be very contemplative, loving beings.
The alligators communicated how they teach their young ones to "rest," to feel their bodies in the mud, to practice connecting deeply to the Earth and water. They focused on the beauty of contacting the Earth with the underside of their bodies and how this not only gave them energy and loving contact with the Earth but fed and supported the Earth and all of life upon it. They consciously held a matrix of support and unity for their own kind and for the whole Earth.
I could see how the alligator elders had to pass this consciousness to the young, not only through their genes, but also through their example and communication to each other. Other tribes of animals do the same with their young: the elephants, the bees, the whales, the frogs, the chimpanzees... handing down the "traditions" of their kind, the multidimensional aspects of being and consciousness of their function as individuals, as kin, and as part of the whole planetary ecosystem.
Such deep awareness and consciousness of animals, plants, rocks, and everything that is, is continually being discovered by those who penetrate the barriers of acculturated disconnection and feel the telepathic unity of existence.
Everything on the Earth is ultimately made of the same basic components, no matter how it has been reshaped by any being or process. By scientific examination, the same "particles" or energetic patterns compose all form. And underneath appearance, we all share the same spiritual essence. The particles of form can be seen as an extension or manifestation of our spiritual nature, as spirit congealed. Everything is moving, conscious, and alive. Everything communicates.
Since human nature contains all the paradoxes of existence and constant choice, it is often a difficult task for people to find their way. Communion with Nature can be a faithful guide along the path.
When we accept, embrace, and come to love the opposites of this world and our minds, we end up in a balanced circle, like the yin/yang symbol, with opposites reconciled, assisting each other. We experience unity, embraced in the nurturing center core of our Being. We find all of creation in this heart of hearts, the entire cosmos and all it contains. We arrive home.

I communicated with a 175-pound pot-bellied pig. He spoke right up about how annoying his pen mate was. He told me that she "gets in his space" and it is very irritating. He was perfectly fine as the human's only companion and kept attacking her (the human) to try and get across how unhappy he was now, being a "duo." He longed for the old days, when he was a baby and lived in the house. He missed snuggling with the human.
We worked out an agreement that he would be allowed out of the pen each day to spend time alone on the patio with his human. His human said he could cruise wherever he wanted in the backyard when she was out there as long as he didn't eat the bushes. (The yard looked like a park at Disneyland, perfectly manicured.) No more biting or attacking, but nudging for attention was acceptable. He was so-o-o-o happy. He promptly lay down next to her and fell asleep. The human said she'd be happy to bring her sleeping bag out when the weather was cooler and snuggle with him again.
Then she had me ask him why he got so upset and wouldn't let her trim his toenails. She reported that she has resorted to giving him beer to calm him down. He said that he loved the beer so he particularly looked forward to trimming time so that he could cause a big stink and get this drink. I told him that beer wasn't especially good for him and throwing a fit to get it would not be in his best interests. She then told him that she would give him a sip of beer occasionally if he would stop fighting her on the toenails.
Later, the human had not fully latched the pen gate and the other pig came wandering out. In one of the sweetest moments of my career, he ambled over from across the yard, nudged me with his snout and ever so shyly and softly said, "Excuse me, but you promised me that I could be out here alone." We promptly locked up the other one, until it was her time out of the pen.
I then spent another hour talking to the human about spiritual books, essential oils, and my own spiritual journey. This is something that I rarely do. I usually wrap up the consultation and leave. With tears in her eyes, she asked how she could find a meditation group to join. I said that she was welcome to visit ours as we have an open door policy for anyone interested.
Now here is the kicker. That night the pig came to me in my dream with this message, "I orchestrated this whole aggressive behavior act so that my human could meet you. I knew that you would invite her to visit and eventually become part of your meditation group. She is ready to blossom spiritually and needs contact with people like you. She has been searching for people of "like mind" unsuccessfully. Thank you for helping her. I really love her and I know you will too."
This is where I began to think that I
had gone over the edge. It took me a long time to come out of the closet and not think
that I was nuts talking to animals. So when I get messages in a dream, I think that I have
lost it. Yet, the message was absolutely clear and to the point. I now accept that it is
in the realm of the Universe for a pig to orchestrate a meeting.
Found Cat Dawn Allen

After I moved, my indoor cats began to spend time outdoors. May had been going outside for a week when I asked her why she never left the front door area. "I am afraid of getting lost." I understood and told her she could do whatever she pleased.
A couple of days later she did not return home on Friday night. After twenty-four hours she was still not home. When I connected with her, she told me she was lost. I was concerned and asked my other cat, Nikita, to help me get May home. We lay down together and I held his paw in my hand. We connected with May and she described where she was (in the woods) and which direction she had originally walked. Nikita offered to enter her perspective and point her towards home. His eyes rolled back in his head and he began twitching, convulsing, and meowing (a condition I have never witnessed before). He gradually fell asleep and May told me she would try to find her way. Three hours later she was waiting by the door!
A Tree's Job Kenneth G. Urquhart
I was in a service station deep in the Bronx, getting a gearbox changed. The dingy waiting room was awful, but far better than what was outside. In it already were two African-American gentlemen and one Hispanic.
Their conversation seemed listless. They took no apparent notice of me. I picked up a tattered magazine.
After some moments, the Hispanic gentleman suddenly sparked into life. His voice started to vibrate with intensity. He had a story to tell. I listened.
At some time in his past, he revealed, he had been in the US Army and had got into trouble. He and another miscreant had been sent to a military place of correction in upstate New York. His offense was evidently not serious because after a while there he and the other man were free to walk around. It happened that the other man had been brought up in an orphanage on a large estate, and that orphanage was right next door to the military place they were staying.
The other man took our narrating friend for a walk into the orphanage property. It included a hospital in a building set apart from the orphanage itself. They approached the hospital on a path bordered by a line of stately old trees.
As they made their way along this path, our friend noticed that out of the bark of the trees was oozing some very dark rather slimy substance. The nearer they got to the hospital, the more he saw coming out of the trees.
"I kept asking myself, what could this stuff be?" he told us.
I could see that the very last tree, the most magnificent of them all, had far more of it than the others. I got to that end tree, and by this time I was very curious. I really wanted to know what was going on. I stopped by the last tree, looking at the slimy stuff, asking "What is this?"
He paused, like a good storyteller. His eyes opened wide.
"Do you know, that tree answered me? I distinctly heard it say to me:
'I take the poisons out of the people in that hospital over there, so they can better. I process it and put it out of me in this liquid you are looking at and wondering about.'
I was just amazed. A tree talking to
me! A tree taking poisons out of people's bodies? And talking to me about it?
"I didn't know what to say. I was speechless. Imagine, a Hispanic man who can't say a word!
"But then," he continued, suddenly becoming a little solemn, introspective, perhaps regretful. "The tree said something that really stopped me in my tracks. That tree really made me look at my whole life. That tree then said to me,
'Yes, here I am doing my job. Tell me, are YOU doing YOURS?'"
He came back from his memories and looked sadly at his two companions.
"You don't believe me, do you?"
"I do, I do!" I cried.
"Every word ! Thank you!"

Royal Python snakes (commonly known as Ball Pythons) are notorious for refusing to eat for excruciatingly long periods of timeexcruciating for the snakes person, that is. I was aware of this before my snake, Wise One, stopped eating for several months this past summer. At first, I decided not to panic since he had done this before. Eventually, I started to worry. Refusing to eat can also be a sign of a more serious health problem. Despite the fact that he had been given a clean bill of health by the vet, I was worried that Wise One might be having a relapse of a previous life-threatening illness. I couldnt shake the nagging feeling that something might be wrong.
During these long months, I checked in with Wise One at least once a week. Usually, I asked him the same questions: Are you feeling alright generally? and Are you hungry enough to eat tonight? I was always told that he was fine and that he wasnt hungry. Many times I let my rational mind overrule what Wise One told me and I offered him a warmed up rat anyway. But he consistently refused to eat the rats I offered.
Finally one night,
after several months had passed with Wise One still refusing to eat, I sat down again to
ask him if he was hungry. Perhaps to put my mind at ease once and for all, Wise One
addressed my concern more directly. As so often happens when I talk with him, what he said
opened my mind, not only to seeing the issue at hand more clearly, but also to applying
his insight directly to my own life.
This is the food for thought that Wise One shared:
You despair because Im not eating, but I am content. I dont need to eat the way humans do or the way other animals do. Its not just the food that fills me, but the energy of the food. Rats are noble creatures. They have many good qualities. They have brave and loving hearts. They are very clean and there is a feeling of kinship among them. They are good-natured and likeable creatures and they are very accommodating. There is a sweetness about them that is endearing. When I eat a rat, I take in these qualities as well. Food is energy. I like this quality of energy. Think about the quality of energy that you are taking into your body. Is it who you wish to become? Give thanks for the food you eat, for with it comes divinity.
This message was a
powerful one for me. I have always recognized and thanked the life force energy in the
rats I feed to Wise One, but had not thought all that much about the quality of life force
energy I was taking into my own body. I felt malnourished, not just nutritionally, but
generally.
Months before I received this message, I had been pondering how I could bring more
nourishment into my life. I knew I wasnt eating well, but was having difficulty
switching to a healthier diet. The importance of the quality of life energy I was
taking into my body didnt hit me at a deep level until I received Wise Ones
message. Then I began to do some work around my feeling of malnourishment. As a result, I
now consciously eat a more nourishing diet and thank the food I eat for sharing its
energy with me. Whenever Im tempted to return to my former eating pattern, I now
ask myself, Is this who I wish to become?
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from this experience, was the importance of
trusting myself and the information I received. For weeks I had despaired that the life of
these beautiful rats was being wasted because Wise One refused to eat. Now, before I feed
him, I always ask Wise One whether or not hes hungry enough to eat. Most
importantly, I listen to and act on his response. Im delighted to say that, since
Ive been doing this, not a single rat has been wasted.
Horse Journey Dr. Elizabeth F. Severino
During the Interspecies Counselor Course at Spring Farm Cares, I did a power animal retrieval journey for one of the students. Her animal was Horse. Since it is important to dance one's power animal immediately after the retrieval, the six students who had volunteered to be part of the process and I began to look around for an appropriate place to dance.
Horses in the neighboring pasture called for my attention. I sent them the telepathic message, "Where dance?" They replied, "Follow." As one, they moved out.
Our group slipped through the post and rail fence into the field and followed the horses, who went into an area about 20 by 20 feet. They stopped, saying, "Here."
We caught up with them. Six humans and four horses were all in the confined area. I felt a sudden concern for the safety of the humans, moving around and dancing their power animals in a space that seemed too small for six humans moving as animals and four moving horses. I remembered that two of the students were very nervous about being around horses and that being in a pasture with horses was a major breakthrough for them. The horses picked up my concern, and immediately moved out of the area and stood to the east of us.
I initiated the drumming cadence for the power animal dance, observing mentally to myself that I had not done the salute to the directions that I traditionally do to begin the power animal dance journey. Immediately the horses neighed and excitedly faced east. Then as a group, they moved easily through all of us, making me realize my earlier concern was very unnecessary and very human, and they faced in a westerly direction, neighed and greeted the west. To my joyous amazement and to the amazement of all who witnessed them, they then moved south, and neighed and greeted the south. Then they moved to the hill to the north above us, and neighed magnificently, saluting the north. Then they returned to their first position, raised up on their hind legs, neighing, greeting Father Sky, and then pawed the ground, greeting Mother Earth. Finished, they stood still, watching me intently, feeling the energy of the dance, and listening both to the cadence of the drum and every thought in my head.
After about ten minutes, the
knowing came, "Now. End." As I registered the message and began my
journey-ending cadence, I noticed one horse separate from the others. He moved over to me,
carefully and gracefully maneuvering around and through the dancing humans. Gently, he
touched his nose to my drum, silencing it.

The Ceremony of the Hawk
and the Dove
Alice M.

I was driving to my Pilates exercise class. As I made one of the turns I saw two dead animals in the middle of the roadway about a hundred yards away. Coming closer, I realized that the bodies were of a hawk and a dove. Instant grieving came over me especially when I saw the magnificent size and feathers of the hawk.
I had just listened to the speech of the Secretary of State Colin Powell evidencing Iraqs weapons capabilities. Seeing a dead hawk and dove took hold of my mind, heart and spirit.
Returning from the exercise class, I saw that the hawk and the dove were still in the middle of the street. Everyone was carefully driving around them. Oddly enough, there were no crows picking at the bodies.
I parked my car at the curb and took a paper shopping bag and a plastic windshield scraper from my trunk. No cars were coming from either direction. Both birds were dead. The dove had a little blood around his neck and the hawk had a broken neck. While the hawk managed to kill the dove, he must have flown into something, breaking his own neck. The hunter and the hunted were both dead, side by side. I placed the birds in the shopping bag and I noted that not a single car came by while I was doing this. I knew what I had to do. As I was driving, the ceremony unfolded in my mind and permeated my entire existence.
In the backyard with shovel, chisel and hammer in hand, I started carving a sizable square in the frozen ground. The ground became softer deeper down except when I hit the roots of my nearby walnut tree. I questioned myself about laying a hawk and a dove to rest side by side but I was determined to do it. As I dug deeper, the root of the tree fell right in the center of the grave separating the hawk and the dove. Yet, they were very much together. The gravesite was ready.
From my bedroom altar I brought a candle, white sage leaves and essential oil. I lit the candle, placed it in the grave, and then lit the sage leaves saturating the entire grave with smoke. I took the frankincense oil and dropped a few drops on each side of the tree root. I laid the two birds side by side on the ground outside of the grave, circled them with the smoke of the sage, and dropped some frankincense oil on each. Then I asked their permission to take three feathers from each. I took the feathers from their tails. Removing the burning candle, I gently placed them into the grave, side by side. I prayed that they might have peace in eternity, thanking them for this lesson and asking God, the Universe, that they might return as lovers of peace and freedom, that humanity would recognize and know the lesson before the awesome catastrophe looming over Mother Earth and her children.
Surprisingly, the burning candle was not blown out by the wind. I took it inside the house and placed it on my altar. While saturating the birds feathers with the smoke of sage, I placed them in a small vase next to the candle as a reminder of hawk and dove, war and peace and the emerging of the two as one, as love.

MILLENNIAL MESSAGES FOR HUMANKIND Penelope SmithIn late 1999, I was asked by Elaine Miller of Animal- the Animal Wellness Magazine to ask various animal species for a message for humankind in the new millennium. The wisdom received from representatives of these species was profoundly moving. We are honored to print some of them here.
TIGER

Deep in our forest home we
see much of what goes on in the darkness and in the light of this Earth. Our home is being
ravaged on the edges and even deep into the forest by the thoughtless actions of
humankind. We do not mind that all of us have to live and use the natural surroundings.
What we do mind is the unconsciousness; humans come in a manner that does not honor all
life around us.
I do not resent humans for the actions that they do. All act in accordance to their own nature. What we ask of you, humankind, as part of the whole, is for a greater consciousness of your relationship to all of us who live here. This is a reminder. There is not one leaf, not one tiny animal, insect, microbe, elephant, whale, and bird that are not dependent upon the whole. Let your consciousness go deep, expanding downward into the Earth, into the trees, into every tiny creature that lives under our feet. Breathe as one being. Come with me into the deep sleep beauty rest of the forest and I will show you how beautiful it is to breathe the breath of one being. There all the knowledge of how we are to live on Earth will be found.
The birds, trees, waters, air -- all of us here in the jungle are kin. We all relate to one another as part of each other. We do not separate as humans do into predator and prey. We are all part of one another. We need to honor the circle -- never taking too much, only what is required to sustain the body. Our body is the forest's body. Our body is the same as the Earth upon which we feed. We do what is natural: we rest, sleep, eat, play, and meditate.
So softly, quietly, like a jungle cat, hear our song. Hear our song of life and when you do then you too will sing with us. Hear our roar. Hear the bird's song. Hear the water dripping its precious droplets to the ground. Hear the wind blow. All that we ask of you is to rest in the consciousness that all of us are a part of life here.
We all need to be reminded to love who we are and all that we are includes every creature, every element, every being on the Earth. Thank you for listening to this call.
ELEPHANT
I am called the Great
Toothless One. I am the old bull elephant that holds the ancient graveyard of all
elephants. I am here in form and in spirit holding the grace of elephant on the Earth. We
are the keepers of ancient records; we are the keepers of the bones of all beings. We hold
the history of all kind including humankind in our bones.
Our feet are heavy on the Earth to feel the sound -- the imprint that goes through the whole Earth. We hold the vibration and rhythm of Mother Earth's breath and heartbeat in our bones.
You ask for a message. I will speak to you, but first you must hear the beating of your own heart. Listen now to your own heartbeat. Synchronize with the beat of the great Mother Earth under our feet. Listen to it now.
This is the only message that I have for you, humankind, as one being and as individuals. We elephants send the deep sound rumbling through the Earth to communicate and honor the great heartbeat of the mother. All information about who we are and who walks on the Earth is held in the sound and transmitted through the bone. Feel the wisdom of the sound travelling in your own bones. Feel the heart beating as one sound travelling through the Earth.
We are the keepers of the ancient knowledge stored in the sounds of the heartbeat of every being that walks on the Earth. Honor us. Honor yourselves. Honor every being for each is needed to complete the tapestry of life on Earth. Humans, hear your own heartbeat. Feel the heart songs of the whole Earth. This is all we ask.
HORSE
painting by Christin
e George
www.christinesart.com
I am horse. I hold the beauty and the standard of freedom for all to see. I am unlimited.
I am most unlimited in physical form when I am wild and free. Yet, I have chosen to be
with humankind as their companion and friend. I treasure that aspect of me that goes into
the barns, shelters, paddocks and places near where humans dwell.
I, as horse, respect myself, my dignity and grace. We, as individuals, give this gift to humankind. The grace, dignity, and the beauty of being companions and at the same time holding our freedom. Understand this as the freedom of living life on earth through our feet, through our ears, through our eyes, through our noses, and through our exquisite sense of touch and feeling.
We love who we are. We love the nature of our being. We delight in our sensuousness. This is what our companions, our human friends, feel in us, and rejoice as it percolates into their own forms. Then they remember that they are also free and dignified beings. We hold that grace in great honor.
For so long we have dwelled with humans and honored their need to be free to move like us in the wind. We ask only that humans remember that we freely give ourselves to them. It is not bondage and we do not want to be treated as slaves. We want to be treated as whole beings, who love, breathe, think, and feel as humans do. Otherwise, why would we be with you?
We are gentle, loving, sweet and holy companions of life. Humans who feel we are their slaves degrade our basic nature. We feel lost. We feel oppressed. This is not what we want in the relationship. We want to dwell in harmony and peace with humankind.
We gladly submit ourselves to the activities that humankind treasures. We honor the creativity of the mind of humankind in finding so many ways to relate to us and with us. All we ask is that we be honored as who we are. We ask that we be given the space to be our natural selves with you, so that we can transmit our greatest gift: the deepest love of who we are in ourselves. When we give this gift, we know that you, too, feel who you are.
We allow you to ride on our backs. We do not want this holy bond to be denied or severed. Yet, we want to be respected. So, when you see the horse, and see each horse as an individual, we ask that you look at our souls and know who we are. Then you will honor us and treat us in the way we deserve, in the way that you yourselves deserve as fellow beings, and as souls of beauty on the earth.
Human friends, we ask for a new vision, a revision of the old pact from when the first horse came to be with you as a companion. We opened the door to a new relationship on the earth. We opened the door to a new unity. May you be reminded of your unity with us and all the elements that we so freely give to you. May you remember who we are and in remembering, come home to the holy being that you are. Thank you for listening. Thank you for your grace. I am Horse.
CAT
We have come to you,
humankind, to be your friends. We have come to show you how to live lightly on the
earth to dance, sing, play, and nap. It is so important to rest and to
feel the integrity of yourself both in your movement and in your non-movement. We are the
masters of movement and non-movement. Learn from us. Learn from our dance. We play with
the butterflies, birds, mice, and all the creatures from large to tiny. We love them all.
We love and live in lightness.
We would like to open you to your own nature. Your own nature is part of our nature, and this is why we dwell with you. We have our playful side and we have our intense hunter side. We are blood creatures and we are not afraid of blood. It is part of life; it is part of death. The blood that pulses through our veins and through the veins of every creature is Life itself. We love the blood and we love to feel it in our own veins. We become one with the creatures that we eat.
We are fellow beings together playing, dancing, singing, and loving to be touched. Loving to be loved. Loving to nurture. Loving to feel the softness of the lap, the pillows, and the cozy places. We love the earth and the touch of our feet on the earth. Those of us that live in places where we cannot touch the earth anymore still remember and unite with the earth in our dreamtime naps. We ask you to come with us. Come with us into the beautiful dreamtime that is cat meditation. Our dreamtime is a holding of the energies of earth in softness, in sweetness, in love, in sensuousness. We feel our bodies as warm loving vessels for our divinity.
Sometimes we are demanding. We have to have our own way. We are cat. We have dignity. We demonstrate to you how to be clear. We call it exactly as it is. When we want something, we tell you. You love us because we remind you of who you are. We remind you of who you are in your love of comfort, love, nurturance, and touch. We love the touch of humankind. What we ask of you is that you let yourselves be touched by our touch, that you let yourself be moved into sweetness and love of the comfort of closeness.
Some of us have chosen to be very close to nurture you. Others of us have kept our wild nature and we show to you our wildness. Remember that you too have all these aspects in yourself. Anything in us that you see that you do not love reflects the aspects in yourself that you do not accept. We are so close to you because we are your teachers of course! We also learn from our relationship with you. We learn how we are a blend of both domestic and wild. We learn how to live with those that often do not know themselves. For we recognize that humans forget and we cats have taken this upon ourselves to remind you with love, with our purrs, and with our warmth and softness. Treasure us for we are cat. We have the comfort of knowing who we are as sweet souls here upon the earth enjoying our lives with grace, beauty, and peace. All we ask is that you enjoy life with us, and that you settle into the comfort of being who you are: a composite being of body, mind, and soul. We all have the same elements in different combinations. We rejoice in our combination, which, of course, is so supreme. We love who we are. May we remind you to love who you are. For we are cat and have chosen to be a part of you. Thank you.
DOG
Buddha Boy
I am domesticated dog, friend of
humankind from the beginning of time. You may think that you have a past with us
that extends only a certain amount of your history. No, it was decided when we
came into form that we would be your friend. We would be the ones who
reminded you in so many ways by our service that you too are a soul of service
on the earth. No one who lives here can live without serving another. It is our
fulfilment to serve you humankind. We feel so in love with ourselves when we
serve.
From the beginning of time, we decided to be with you, and to love and move with you in all shapes and forms. We are not unlike our wild cousins, the wolves, foxes, and other dogs, yet we are very different, too. We have agreed to make ourselves small to live in your homes. We make ourselves large to live in your fields and guard your sheep and other flocks. We have made ourselves tiny to put ourselves in your hands. We are all the same whether we are the ones who serve with open hearts, whether we are hunters, workers, or the tiny dogs who lick your faces.
We are full of the love of service, and it is our task to remind you that the greatest love comes when you give to another. We feel this wholeheartedly in our beings. We feel it in every cell. Our hearts beat to love, to give, and to serve. What we ask of humankind is for you to remember that this is what life is about for you – to love, to serve, and to remember that you are souls of love and service on the earth.
We see so clearly our roles to serve you in your role as caretaker of the earth, of all the species. You have the hands, the feet, the eyes, and the brains. You have the heart of a caretaker of the garden of the earth and all the species. We give our hearts and our loyalty to you to serve the great service that you serve.
We feel our role in the great circle is to be with you in all our aspects, in all our forms, from tiny little dogs to great guard dogs. All of us have our function. All of us love who we are. Can you love us as we love you? Can you love as we love? All we want to do is to spread the love that we give into your hearts, so deeply that you feel the strength of your own function on the earth. For you are the ones who walk over the earth giving and receiving the love of all creatures. You are the ones we stand and sit next to, and love wholeheartedly for we are in love with humankind. We are in the greater love of all beings because of our service and devotion. So remember us for we are your reminders of the deepest, sweetest love that is within your hearts.
Take care, humankind, of all the creatures of the earth. Take care of the plants, the soil, the dogs, the cats, the birds, and all the beings on the earth that love you and love us all. Care for us; care for all beings. We care for you.

Movie Review by Penelope Smith from the Winter 2007 issue
The Story of the Weeping Camel (2004) 2005 Academy Award®: Best Documentary Feature nominee
I first saw this moving documentary about a
Mongolian camel who rejected her large white male newborn a few years ago. I
wanted to write a review about it then, but never got to it. I was spurred again
to write this review by questions e-mailed to me about the telepathic connection
and healing aspects of the movie. The film shows the camel’s difficult delivery,
aided by a family of Mongolian shepherds, who make valiant efforts to warm the
mother to her child. The family's two young boys travel across the Gobi desert
to find a healing musician, who does a profound shamanic ritual with his
violin-like instrument. The mother camel visibly weeps (this is a documentary;
there are no fake tears) as she releases her trauma and turns in love to accept
her baby.
Here is the dialog that spurred this review, further elucidating
why I loved this movie.
Jeanne Robinson
asked me:
Could you please explain something about the film The
Story of the Weeping Camel? The mother camel finally accepts her previously
rejected baby. What made her change, what made her cry, and how did she become
reconciled?
Penelope:
I saw the film and loved it. I especially loved the shamanic healing aspect. The
musician placed his stringed instrument on the mother camel for the instrument
to absorb the energy and "story” or images of the trauma she went through at the
birth of her baby. When he played the music that came through on his instrument,
he played the energy of the incident back to the mother camel.
The mother camel was able to view her trauma and release the pain and
suffering experienced during the birth of her big baby. Then, with her emotions
unfrozen, she was able to bond with her baby for the first time.
She rejected her baby because of the birth pain. She couldn't even be near
her son because it would turn on the pain that she couldn't release on her own
without help from a healer, so she shut down her emotions. That is why she wept
as the musician played. She was releasing both the physical pain of the
traumatic birth for her and the emotional rejection of her baby.
This was truly beautiful and powerful shamanic healing and amazing that
people could film this as it happened.
Jeanne: I have been reading and re-reading your message, partly because I'm so thrilled you wrote back and am amazed over your comments, and because something you described was opposite of what I thought was happening. Even though I've thought a lot about it, I'm still confused. Did the musician absorb the trauma through the instrument and have it come back out of him through the music, or did his compassion and playing the instrument "reactivate" the impressions absorbed by the instrument?
Penelope:
Energetic patterns of trauma and experiences are in our energy field around, in,
and through our bodies. The musical healer could have "played" the energy of the
trauma through music without putting his instrument on the camel. He (or another
shaman/healer) could have danced, sung, spoken, toned, or otherwise translated
the trauma. His way was to have the instrument absorb the energy and then simply
play the music that came forth from the instrument. The instrument and musician
translated the sensations of the traumatic birth into sound. The music brought
forth the trauma to consciousness for the camel to release.
In the musician’s song, the mother camel could hear the energy of what
she went through, feel it, see it, and release it. This shamanic sound healing
was like telepathic counseling. Besides the music itself, which played the
trauma, the musician healer set the tone and assisted the process with his
intention for healing to occur. This helped to ready the camel for the good
results of her session.
I have done similar type of energetic or shamanic healings with humans
and non-humans with telepathic counseling, music, dance, and sounds.
Jeanne: This is an astonishing and humbling lesson to me. I thought the instrument was put on the camel to impart a sense of calm, of religious blessing and forthcoming catharsis. It's also an example of your wonderful abilities!
These Mongolian tribal people showed a touching connection to each other, Nature, and the deep shamanic healing that is possible through their native spirituality. The filmmakers also did a marvelous job of orchestrating this as a narrative without a feeling of intrusion. I relished tuning in to the telepathic communication of the camels and people as I watched the film and feeling the deeper meaning inherent in the action.
SCIENTIFIC
PROOF OF TELEPATHY
from the Winter 2004 issue
Penelope Smith with Anita Curtis, Mary Getten, Carol Gurney, Dawn
Hayman, Barbara Janelle, Jeri Ryan, Elizabeth Severino, and Marta Williams
An e-mail message from a man called R.C. started a thought provoking dialogue. In answering his earnest questions, I opened to new possibilities of bridging our field to a larger public.
R.C. asserted that unless I could scientifically prove the existence of telepathy and my claims about interspecies communication that I was potentially causing innocent people psychic damage. He further stated that truth is testable and repeatable and that scientific experiments should be set up to test the authenticity of our claims. He affirmed his belief that the mechanism of what we called telepathic communication could be explained in terms of the normal five senses.
I view telepathy as an extension of our five senses - a finely tuned communication of energy, thoughts and feelings experienced through internal and extended sensing. While telepathic communication is invisible, it is able to be perceived if one is attuned to and practiced in that form of communication, even across vast distances. Radio waves are also invisible but able to be perceived with a properly tuned transmitter and receiver.
For me the observable positive results of telepathic communication seen in animals and people are the proof of its existence and validity. These results include both physical behavior changes that can be easily seen plus emotional and spiritual healing which is experienced uniquely by the individuals involved. Outside observers or researchers would not experience the benefits in the same way.
Scientific studies in remote viewing and other forms of telepathic communication with humans and in other species have been done that show its nature and prove its existence. Well known biologist and biochemist, Rupert Sheldrake, employs scientific experiments to show that animals can telepathically communicate with people in his book Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home (And Other Unexplained Powers of Animals).
Marta Williams, an animal communicator with a background as a biologist, mentions in her book, Learning Their Language that physicist, Russell Targ, did extensive studies on human intuitive powers, or “psi phenomena” focusing on remote viewing in his book The Mind Race: Understanding and Using Psychic Ability and related studies in Miracles of the Mind: Exploring Nonlocal Consciousness and Spiritual Healing. Also, Gary Schwartz used strict scientific protocol to test accomplished intuitives in The Afterlife experiments: Breakthrough Scientific Evidence of Life after Death.
Animal communicators have repeated experience of the positive response of animals after communicating telepathically with them, often at a distance where no behavioral cues are observed. Specific information and results have been verified by numerous people, including veterinarians.
In scientific parlance, these examples are considered anecdotal and not accepted as scientific proof. Rupert Sheldrake points out in his book that the word anecdote means “not published,” so an anecdote is an unpublished story. Once published, anecdotes become case histories. When people’s accounts point to consistent and repeatable patterns, anecdotes are called natural history. Dr. Sheldrake feels that open minded scientific inquiry, paying attention to evidence and testing theories by means of experiment can be very enlightening.
I had to overcome my resistance and doubt as to how such complex, intangible yet obviously beneficial results as those regularly obtained by animal communicators could be scientifically tested. I began to see that setting up repeatable experiments to verify some of the information obtained in animal communication could be another way to validate the existence and results of interspecies communication. Moreover, it could open the benefits of telepathic connection to another segment of the population.
R.C. proposed this experiment:
You have all made the claim that animals communicate information about their surroundings which you can receive. We know from experimentation that dogs are good at distinguishing shades of gray. So, they could tell a white bowl from a black one. For a given number of trials, place either the black bowl or the white bowl (maybe with a little treat in it) before the dog. Have the animal psychic who cannot see the bowl, "ask" the dog if the bowl that contains his treat is "kind of light" or "kind of dark" and record the answer. Calculate the percentage of correct answers. Recognizing that no communication is 100% (I have enough experience here to make this bold claim!), and that pure chance would predict correct answers 50% of the time, the existence of interspecies telepathic communication would be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt if your answers were correct significantly more than 50% of the time!
I did an experiment on human telepathy in college on the relationship of emotional closeness of sender and receiver and telepathic accuracy. In a series of separate trials, the people tested wrote down what number they received telepathically as I viewed one card at a time. The correlation of telepathic accuracy and degree of emotional closeness was statistically significant.
In the course of our e-mail discussion, I went from dread at receiving another long, involved message from R.C. to being excited about how we could use a scientific approach to expand our reach and effectiveness. We could set up a study with many animal communicators, from beginners to experienced professionals, testing common information that animal communicators receive.
As long as we would take the time and effort to do this research, we could make it a more comprehensive and useful study than the dog bowl experiment R.C. proposed. Factual information, such as physical health conditions, living quarters, people in the family, and other elements of animals’ physical life could be checked. This could help animal communicators to validate and even improve their own telepathic skill. Other parameters and ways to research are proposed by other contributors to this article.
Brenda Fullick, a journalist writing for Species Link, is seeking researchers to do this kind of study. Suggestions on accomplishing this are welcome.
I asked other seasoned animal communicators, including some with scientific backgrounds, to respond to R.C.’s challenge. The result is a rich exploration of many angles on the subject. This landmark discussion can help us to better understand and present to others the validity of telepathic communication with other species.
Elizabeth Severino offered:
I would suggest that this
man first read Power vs. Force by David R. Hawkins, M.D. Dr.
Hawkins has spent his life studying the internal truth inherent in the body's
knowing, its pure relationship to Truth and Universal consciousness, and the
ability to sense and know that truth. He is the author of numerous scientific
papers and videotapes and co- authored Orthomolecular Psychiatry
with Nobel Prize Winner Linus Pauling. I further suggest that this man read
The Biology of Consciousness and watch the video, The Biology
of Belief, both by Dr. Bruce Lipton. Dr. Lipton is a Stanford University
Researcher whose work with cell behavior has yielded extraordinary insight into
the molecular basis of consciousness including the conclusion that Neo-Darwinian
biology is gravely in error. A major conclusion of Dr. Lipton's work is that the
energy of compassion, love, and community actually changes the field into which
it is expressed.
Isn't that what animal communication is? Sensing with our feeling body and
introducing great love and compassion into a situation?
I figured out many years ago what I needed to feel
validation for myself and to feel validated by veterinarians and care-persons. I
moved forward to acquire that experience and the validation, often putting
myself very much on the line. Many of my early experiences with each of the
veterinarians I now work with as a veterinary medical intuitive were in
emergency situations where life and death were in the balance.
I was first tested as an intuitive in Vassar College in the 1960's through a
study from John Hopkins University. A few unedited capsules from my notes
follow.
"K.C. called, dying cat, no external indicators of cause, cat said it inhaled chemical fertilizers sprayed on next door neighbor's lawn, vet took immediate hair sample, sample confirmed chemical poisoning, appropriate remedy given, cat recovered fully."
"D.K. called, dog dying, external indicator of major bite wound vet felt was from either a brown spider or a wasp, vet said antidote for one if it was the other would kill it, dog said it was a brown spider, immediate antidote for brown spider given, dog recovered fully."
"B.Sp. called, cat dying, hemoglobin level 13, vet said hemoglobin level must rise, prayed for 45 minutes, hemoglobin level then 27, vet said 'medical impossibility but there it was'."
"D.K. called, cat presented with major phlegm and near asphyxiation, okay only on oxygen, cat sent me basement's energy, sensed spores in basement, subsequent test proved spore presence in respiratory, remedies given, cat recovered fully."
One of my favorites: "A.J. called, Dachshund paralyzed for six weeks. A.J. said "not responding to anything" "tried everything" "no hope of recovery" "recommending euthanasia", dog said "not ready need help big-time", took this as God and prayer needed NOW, told A.J., begged A.J. to hold off, A.J. agreed "what can we lose?", started praying deeply, A.J. called during prayer session & reported dog had "fallen into a deep trance" feared trance meant precipitation of dog's death 'cause we agreed I would also pray for Highest Good, dog woke up finally after 2 hours (whew!), got up, walked and has been walking ever since."
From Anita Curtis:
I was told recently, “Experts have let us know that dogs are color blind.”
The first thing I do on a communication call is ask the animal to tell me something that will let his person know we are talking to him. Usually, if there is a physical problem, I feel the animal’s pain or discomfort. If there is no pain, the animal often describes a place or something in his environment. I am either shown a picture of an object, such as a green chair, or the animal will describe the item as well as the color. The conversation can only continue if we have verification that we are speaking to the correct animal.
One caller’s dog had run
off from the veterinarian’s office far from where he lived. He had been gone for
over a week and needed surgery and medication. The dog described to me
telepathically several red brick buildings and the caller thought one of them
might be a firehouse. I asked the dog if he had seen long red trucks with
ladders on the sides. He said he had seen the trucks but they were yellow. .jpg)
Fairfax photo by Karla McCoy
The woman called the firehouse at once and found out their trucks were yellow. She called me back excitedly and said she would set a humane trap with food in it in a certain place. We described the place to the dog and told him it was safe to go there and eat the food. He got the message, went into the trap, and they had their dog back within hours of the call.
The gifts of animal communication are the joy and relief felt by the animals and their people when their problems are resolved, messages delivered, and fears are put to rest.
Sometimes the issues are simple. Many behavioral problems are resolved by communicating with animals. Cats who urinate beside the litter box can explain that they are “pissed off” because another kitty is fed first, or they do not like the smell of the litter, or a myriad of other reasons. When the person makes the appropriate change the cat returns to using the litter box. This happens too often to be a coincidence.
In all the years that I have been communicating with animals my most poignant memories come from the times when I have been called to speak to an animal who was about to move on in his spiritual journey. I always ask the animal to give me information so the caller will know we are truly talking to his or her best friend. That information usually comes in the form of where the pet will visit his person once he is in spirit form. It is comforting for the person to hear, “I will visit you in the room with the piano.”
The callers are usually distraught because they think their beloved friends are afraid. When they receive messages of love and understanding it helps to ease the pain of the transition for both the person and the animal.
Jeri Ryan addressed R.C.’s concerns:
I understand your skepticism regarding "felt-sense", or intuition, given that many have been found to be in error for that and others have been persecuted for the work they did to challenge that. I know that Galileo did much scientific work (as it was defined in those days) to reach his conclusions. I do genuinely wonder, however, where his belief originated. Was it an intellectual "Ah ha!" after reviewing and rearranging the available data into combinations and permutations? Or was it the "felt-sense that we call intuition?
Descartes was renowned for
his scientific work, and is still greatly relied upon in modern times for his
major contributions to mathematics and physics. He was not challenged for his
mechanistic view of the world, which left no room for free will and which has
turned out to be greatly deficient, according to modern physics. That
mechanistic view, when applied to nonhuman animals in Descartes’ time, allowed
the most brutal research to be applied to them as subjects. Today that
mechanistic view still allows the scientific use of animals again in brutal
research, this time with the knowledge that they are indeed sentient, that they
have emotional brains, and that they have emotional receptors on every cell in
their bodies. Emotional receptors exist on every cell in the human body as
well. They assist in that "felt-sense."
Einstein did feel uncomfortable with his own theories, as did Max Planck with
Quantum Theory. Yet both revolutionized physics to the point where now there are
two camps: classical and modern. Einstein refused to accept Quantum Theory in
its entirety, even though he contributed to its development, because he insisted
that "God does not play dice," a rather unscientific statement. Einstein’s
Theory of Relativity was a vast departure from the Newtonian scientific method.
Relativity takes research into the real world, where phenomena are not removed
from their influential environments and isolated. Both approaches are very
useful, and much needed.
There is a solid piece of
research on telepathic communication conducted in the early part of the 19th
century by Vladimir Bechterev. See the Journal of Parapsychology, 13,
166-76. It could be of great benefit to do further study of telepathy between
humans and animals.
Dean Raden conducted consciousness research for twenty years at
Stanford Research Institute, think tanks and several universities. He has
applied science to psychic phenomena, and specifically to telepathy.
Dr. Raden addresses nonlocal consciousness. The physics phenomenon of nonlocal
resonant activity of two separate particles, no matter how far away from each
other they might be, has been applied as possible substantiation to telepathy
per se, and then to telepathy between animals and humans. Larry Dossey, a
medical doctor with a penchant for physics has reported on this, also, and on
the nonlocal effectiveness of prayer in healing.
I am a deeply spiritual
person, as I understand you (R.C.) to be from your discussion of God. I am
totally comfortable without proof for my spiritual beliefs or even for the
existence of God, albeit that is not a scientific attitude according to
Newtonian science. With the strength of your support for Newtonian science, I
wonder if you are.
Please consider the fact that many animal communicators have their feet on the
ground. They sincerely want to be of help, and they are. They study; they learn.
Their work is an extension of the five senses that falls into the intuitive
realm. However, the intellectual is also present to monitor the work for
interference, accuracy and validity, and to determine the reality of
recommendations for solution. Their work is substantiated by the validations
they receive from their clients and by the willingness of the animals to change
their behavior.
When I studied psychotherapy, I learned that the healing methods that are
effective are the ones that the afflicted people embrace in their belief system.
Newtonian science may consider such healing to be a result of placebo effect.
Perhaps, and placebo studies show that the results of modern medicine could be
the same.
Belief systems are very powerful. Rupert Sheldrake addresses intention
as an important ingredient for successful telepathic communication between
animals and humans.
Intention is what allows the karate black belt to crack a cinder block with the
side of her/his hand. It allowed a nine year old female child to crack a two
inch thick block of wood with the side of her little hand. It allows the
spiritual practice of walking over hot coals in bare feet to occur without
injury or pain. Intention allows telepathic communication with animals to
happen.
These have all been considered impossible events. Telepathy with animals is
considered by many to be impossible, as were travel to the moon, the healing
effectiveness of prayer, artificial intelligence, etc. Field theory and the
observation that particles become each other suggest that telepathy between any
beings is possible.
We always work to improve our work. Research could help that. Your suggestion for a research topic is a good place to start. I would like to see it move into the phenomenological method of research, a bit closer to modern physics because it allows for movement, instead of confining the study to a static linear approach.
According to modern physics, to have the whole truth we need to allow for some mystery.
Barbara Janelle responded:
Relatively few ideas and
"facts" in our world have been subject to double-blind studies. Double-blind
studies are full of difficulties. They attempt to look at only a couple of
variables although functioning in our world is very much more complex. Examples
are studies done in animal psychology and health. Animals, from mice to monkeys,
are kept in artificial environments. Moreover, the larger species are usually
kept in isolation. These conditions stress animals and any study results are
questionable because the impact of stress on immunity and behavior is not fully
understood.
There is a large and growing body of evidence that suggests that the
researcher's interest and attention can change study outcome. Even something
like a lab technician's interest in a particular animal can change that animal's
behavior and health.
We have a very limited understanding about how information spreads. Rupert
Sheldrake and others have written about how a whole species behavior shifts once
a threshold population knows how to do something. Work on String Theory
suggests that once cells have been in contact that they continue to show
similar changes over time even when separated by thousands of miles. This
suggests a wide range of additional variables that we know little about.
There is a huge amount of writing on the philosophy of science that
essentially says that the scientific approach is very limited as a testing
procedure and what we learn from it are only approximations in understanding,
not hard, unchanging facts.
Another way of looking at the validity of ideas and information is to examine
the effects of using them. Indeed much of what we think we know through
scientific study is based on examining effects. For example very little is
understood about what electricity is, but we have a lot of studies that show us
what it does.
A principle of Hawaiian Huna Philosophy is "A measure of truth is
effectiveness."
We can work with this principle in examining interspecies communication. Primary questions are:
a) Does
interspecies communication change something in the behavior, health or
performance of the animal?
b) Does interspecies communication change the relationship between
animal and owner?
c) Does interspecies communication change anything in the
communicator's life?
This is an avenue that we
can explore both formally and informally through questioning clients about the
effect of the work. Informally, as I look at the letters I have received from
clients in the last three months, about 80% of them mention changes in the
animal and/or in their relationship with the animal as a result of the
communication consultation. Formalized studies using questionnaires can
certainly be devised and done. This kind of approach is commonly used in health
studies and in the social sciences.
There are other indicators that interspecies communication is real:
a) In almost
every communication there is some piece of information that signals to the owner
that the communicator is actually receiving information from the animal.
b) In classes, there is always some correlation in information
received by the participants.
These can be examined in formal studies as well.
On the test of dogs seeing
color, it is my sense that dogs and other animals, including many humans,
experience colors as vibration. An animal can send this kind of information to a
communicator and the communicator may interpret it as color.
Another issue raised by R.C. is about ethics. The Code of Ethics that
Penelope developed is a fine statement of the principles that those of us who
are listed abide by. Again too, there is the measure that effectiveness in
our work determines whether we stay in business. Many of our clients come by
word of mouth. If a communicator is not ethical or accurate, the client base
will disappear.
My skill and that of many
others in this work has been developed over years of training, practice, and
sharing of information through writing, teaching and self-examination. This is
demanding work and we continue to grow in skill, clarity, and understanding.
Mary Getten answers R.C.:
There is plenty of proof with many thousands of animals and clients that have been helped by communicators. Most communicators work on the telephone. They do not see the animal and are not interpreting “body language or animal sounds” as you (R.C.) assert.
I am also not a psychic. I cannot predict the future, diagnose illness, nor compel any animal to change its behavior. My job is to be a link between the person and the animal – to help them understand each other. I am in effect a translator. This does not mean that each communicator will translate what that animal has to say in exactly the same way. Human language translators often interpret what they hear a bit differently. The essence is the same, but the way of expressing it may differ.
Like a language expert, I studied and practiced to learn this skill. Communicating with animals was not a “gift” I just woke up with one day. I took my first class in 1988 and studied with many teachers for eight years before I felt confident and had enough proof to do this work professionally. The communicators I know and network with have similar stories.
In my work I have been able to help thousands of animals and their people. How do I know this? I get phone calls, e-mails and letters from clients every week, telling me about the changes that occurred after our consultation, or that the vet confirmed what I was feeling. I also call my clients about three weeks after a consultation to see how things are going. This gives me valuable feedback or “proof” that I am communicating well with animals.
The point of telepathic communication is to relay information. What the person does with that information and how they respond will influence what happens. I make suggestions, negotiate with the animal and help them understand each other. I do not claim to be able to “fix” their problems, although very often this is the outcome.
Animals are a lot like people. You can ask them to change their behavior and some will be happy to do so. Others will not. Some might want to, but in the end fail. You (R.C.) relayed a story about your friend’s dog who said he would not kill another cat, but then did. (See the next article for this story.) Do you have any friends who said they were going to stop drinking or smoking, but then didn’t? I suspect that the dog’s intentions were good; he just wasn’t able to control himself in the moment. This is common with all living beings. Animals like people, also change their minds.
Our world is full of variables. There is very little that can be proven by the scientific method if you require that the results are the same every time. Math is the one science which seems to be constant – 2 plus 2 always equals 4. There are some laws, such as gravity that appear to be constant as well, but when you bring living beings into the equation, your definition of scientific proof fails.
Let’s look at our medical system. Some would say that we have proof that chemotherapy kills cancer, yet this is often not the case. The same is true of vaccines and any medical procedures. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. Does that mean we should stop using our current medical system until we have proof that it works every time? It does not work a good percentage of the time, yet it is commonly and wholeheartedly accepted. Individuals react and respond differently and there is no scientific method that can show that the same result will occur again, under identical circumstances. There are no identical circumstances when dealing with individuals.
Scientific researchers can “prove” whatever they set out to prove. They start with an assumption and then set out to prove it. Almost any hypotheses can be “proven” according to the scientific method. This proof is based on the law of averages, not that it will happen exactly the same in each incident. This is acceptable science in the twenty-first century.
Nothing is 100% in this world we live in - not medicine, not science, not anything that deals with individuals. The animal communicators I know and respect can all furnish written and oral proof from their clients about the effectiveness of their communication. The fact that this information has not been published in a scientific journal is irrelevant.
Marta Williams to R.C. and other skeptics:
I read through your (R.C’s)
test and find it to be logical and repeatable. The only problem I see is that it
might be somewhat unexciting and therefore both the psychic and the animal might
fatigue rather quickly. I would set it up differently.

Bernie photo by Starr Taovil
Also, there are some
problems that can happen in laboratory testing. People being tested can become
nervous, get performance anxiety and not do well. And if the tester is very
negative, psychics have a hard time performing. I am not sure how to compensate
for those two variables, but they have been observed in experiments in this
field.
It is to be expected that many people will be skeptical of the ability
to communicate intuitively, through the use of mental projections of thoughts,
feelings, and pictures. This is something we are taught is impossible. However,
within the last few decades there has been significant research proving that
such abilities exist.
There are also many
researchers, primarily physicists, who are working to uncover the explanation
for how such abilities might be possible, including Alain Aspect (physicist,
University of Paris), David Bohm (physicist, University of London), and Karl
Pribram (neurophysiologist, Stanford University). The fact that these
researchers have been largely ignored does not negate their work. It simply
shows that scientists can be resistant to change and challenging new ideas just
like anyone else.
It is not fair, as some skeptics claim, to say that there is no proof of
intuitive ability. There is ample proof and these people have painstakingly
provided it. Moreover, their experiments were repeatable and verifiable. One of
Rupert Sheldrake’s detractors even redid his experiment and got the same
statistically significant results.
Within the field of animal communication specifically, proof comes most often in
the form of anecdotal evidence such as information the communicator receives
from the animal that can then be verified by the animal’s person. Anecdotal data
is used all the time in medical research on people, for example in studies of
painkillers or other such subjective inquiries where peoples’ responses are
collected as data.
I believe that verified anecdotal data from animal communicators is just as
valid as statistical data, especially when the communicator works at a
distance, neither seeing nor interacting with the animal, and when the data is
unique and could not have been logically surmised.
It is however, critical to verify and test intuitive data and maintain some
objectivity about it. Just because someone feels something does not mean it
is true. There should be a ‘wait and see attitude’ if the data cannot be
immediately verified.
It is the irony and
challenge of working intuitively that one must be nonjudgmental and
nonanalytical in order to receive intuitively. Yet judgment and critical
thinking are then required to adequately interpret and utilize the intuitive
data received.
One critique I have of the field is that some practitioners, both human
psychics and animal communicators, do not treat unproven intuitive data with
enough healthy skepticism. Even the best intuitives know they are not always
accurate, so there is always that margin of error to be taken into account.
However, the overall effectiveness and usefulness of animal communication is
being proven every day by its growing popularity with the consumer. People
receive enormous assistance from this process. If that were not the case, the
field would not be expanding as it is.
From Carol Gurney
Without a doubt, modern
science, with its stringent protocol, has made immense contributions to the
health and welfare of our society. Many people depend on science to create the
reality in which they live. For instance, my parents would only go to a western
physician for their health care and only do what their physician recommended.
For most people this is entirely reasonable. Others have chosen alternative
approaches and still others have integrated the two. We have a choice in how we
want to pursue our health and ultimately live our lives.
Today, science would like us to believe that it is the standard by which
reality is validated. However, science and its stringent testing protocol are
not infallible. With improved testing methods, research supplies us with new
theories which sometimes contradict existing ones.
For many years science
claimed that animals could not see color. In The Journal of American
Veterinary Medicine Association Scientific Reports: Leading Edge of Medicine—A
Review the ability of dogs to distinguish color has been the subject of
several studies with often conflicting results. Many early behavioral studies
indicated either that dogs lacked color vision, or that if they could
discriminate hue, it was without importance to dogs; form and brightness were
more important. Many of these early studies, however, were poorly controlled,
and more recent, well-controlled studies have clearly documented that dogs
possess and use color.
Animal communicators have known that animals do recognize color and respond to
it. They did not apply scientific protocol to discover this and yet they knew
and have been working with this color knowledge in spite of and before the
latest results of this now accurate scientific data.
A client whose horse arrived from Russia called me to consult on the case. When
the owner took the horse to one of the top hospitals in California, the
veterinarian was very interested in listening to what the horse had
communicated. At the end of listening to my tape recorded session, he said that
everything the horse communicated could be scientifically proven through the
x-rays and testing the hospital administered. How do we, as animal
communicators, obtain this information without the use of scientific testing
methods?
We use a form of telepathy to gather information about an animal. The word
telepathy is derived from the Greek terms tele (“distant”) and pathe
(“occurrence” or “feeling”). Most common telepathy occurs spontaneously in cases
of crisis in which a family member or friend has been injured or killed. The
receiver becomes aware through thought fragments, vague feelings, dreams,
visions or simply knowing that their loved one is in danger or has died. Brain
research has shown that telepathy can be induced in the dream state or what is
commonly known as the theta state. Electroencephalogram monitoring during this
testing also showed that the brain waves of the recipient changed to match
those of the sender. It has also been found that telepathy is closely
connected to emotional states of both the sender and receiver.
It is then not so surprising that there is little published scientific data to
support telepathic communication. Science is based on objective testing, often
in sterile environments and with no connection between the two subjects being
tested. Sometimes the subject is even tested by a random number generating
machine. Science prides itself on hard facts, the opposite of heartfelt
feelings. With this in mind, it would almost appear that science, as a tool for
validating telepathic animal communication is inappropriate.
Perhaps we are ready, as a species to live in balance and harmony with our two
brains. The left analytical side which strives to explain the world through
science and the right intuitive side which chooses to feel life naturally.
From Dawn Hayman:
There are two types of knowledge: intellectual, coming from the mind, and intuitive, coming from the heart. Both types of knowledge are equally valid and important to our understanding of life itself. Neither can exist without the other. When in balance, they enhance one another. The mental intellect has developed incredibly advanced ways to prove, measure, and determine the validity of many things perceived to be in our physical realm. The heart intuitiveness determines validity through feelings, emotions, and understandings that may not be measurable physically. Sometimes we just “know” something to be true because it FEELS true. Sometimes we know something to be true because we can measure it, replicate the outcome, and announce that it is fact.
There are many things about our daily existence that we can not “prove” to be true or “real” yet we all have experienced them. Love is a great example. How can we scientifically prove that love exists? How can we measure it? Yet, I think it is fair to say that most of us have experienced it and felt it. Indeed, we see that we actually need love to survive and develop correctly as functional human beings.
The field of animal communication is based more on the intuitive form of knowledge. Just like love, it can be experienced, but not necessarily measured. Animal communication is a counseling profession. Through telepathic communication, an animal communicator can help people find their own connection and communication with their own animals. The animal communicator is simply a facilitator in the process.
Animals are non-judgmental,
trustworthy, and love unconditionally. Can we prove any of those things?
Not scientifically. Those of us with animals know those statements to be true.
Animals connect with us heart to heart. Through that heart/intuitive connection,
communication takes place. The “proof” of this communication can be seen through
changes in the animal’s behavior, health, and even changes in their entire human
family
as well.
Animal communication is not about finding out what color the dogs water bowl is or what their favorite toy looks like. Animal communication is about relationships. It is about the relationship that the animal experiences with other animals, with their human friends, and with life itself. Just as importantly though, it is also about the persons relationship with their own self, with other humans, and with the world. Krishna and Scott
I have had much feedback from clients saying that not only did their whole relationship with their animals change after a consultation, but they found that their human relationships were impacted too. Witnessing peoples lives open up to connecting with their intuitive knowledge has been proof to me that animal communication works in immeasurable ways.
Knowledge of the heart can not be measured. It is experienced. To be loved unconditionally and accepted without judgment is one of the most healing things we can experience. To be a facilitator of this process for people and their animals is incredibly rewarding and humbling. The goal for me, as an animal communicator, is to help people find their intuitive connection to their animals, all living things, and the world around them. It is not my goal to have them depend on me for their answers. In fact, it is not about giving them answers at all, but it is to help them find insight. We all have our own answers and our own proof within us. We need to acknowledge that intuitive knowledge within us and connect with our hearts. Then, what can be measured is the outcome.

Waves of Earth and Water
Penelope Smith from the Spring 2005 issue
A lone whale roams the Pacific for over twelve years, singing at an unusual frequency. Who is this whale? What is he communicating? Who is listening?
American marine biologists have traced the movements of whales using signals recorded by the U.S. navy to track submarines. For the past twelve years, they have been aware of a solo whale with a unique song. The usual frequency range of whale song is between 15 and 20 hertz. This particular whale vocalizes at a frequency of around 52 hertz. He also does not follow the migration patterns of any other whale species.
I perceived this individual as a male blue whale about 38 years old. Stuart Camps (of Fear-No-More Zoo) asked me what this whale was communicating. I asked Stuart to listen to the whale, for the whale was communicating to us all.
Stuart felt the whale communicating a genuine sorrow for himself, the Earth, and us all and that the whale’s calling released and attracted protective energies, communicating “acceptance of the great, irrevocable change that is occurring…. The wailing helps to conduct, heal, and make use of the pain of old ways disappearing. It also serves a process of ushering in, invoking, and making way for the strong new energies that carry the potential of great good.”
Whale Call
The December 26th 9.0 earthquake, centered in the ocean off Sumatra, created walls of waves washing onshore from Asia to Africa. I received a flood of e-mails about the event, including this e-mail message from a person named Swaha Devi, who had heard about my work from a former student.
She said, “I recently had a dream that dozens of whales were very close to shore, as if pushed there. Although it seemed ominous, I woke up before the dream played out so I could not see if they needed help. Two weeks later the tsunami came. In retrospect I have wondered whether the whales were trying to communicate the imminent danger, or what their message to me might have been. Penelope, I would like to know if you have a sense of how they fared during this catastrophe.”
After the Sumatran earthquake, the whales let me know they were aware of the Earth shifting for several weeks. A few days before the earthquake, as the energies intensified, the whales gathered their clans and moved far from shore into deep water. The whales told me that the waters down to 100 feet and near land in the area of the quake were very dangerous, so they moved away.
I felt Swaha’s dream communicated that the whales were checking out the danger near the shore, trying to let humans know, and then had to leave.
The great whales continued to communicate to me about the changes under the earth and ocean and the ripple effect around the world that was building. They felt the earth and ocean movements acutely but they did not get washed ashore or beaten by them. Other animals of land and sea were aware of the changes as the pressure and movement intensified, and those that could moved to safe places.
The lone whale communicating at a high frequency has been calling out for years for all to know that actions toward Earth and ocean have consequences. Evolutionary forces are greater than human individuality and limited thinking. The Earth and oceans move to create new balance in response to the life force in, on, and surrounding the planet.
Elders’ Warning
The Mayan elders of Guatemala have issued a call to humanity to pay closer attention to the messages sent forth by Mother Earth in these recent upheavals. They predicted that the recent destruction that manifested in Indonesia will occur rapidly upon five continents. The elders call us to unite in prayer and meditation to prevent the impending destruction and to immediately take the actions needed to restore balance on our planet. They believe that the hurricanes in the U.S. and the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia have been warnings and we must now pay attention or more efforts by Mother Earth to awaken us will manifest quickly.
Masaru Emoto author of “The Hidden Messages in Water” warned that the field created in the devastated areas by fear, grief, worry, anger, loneliness, and helplessness could energize harmful microorganisms that prefer this kind of environment. He urged people everywhere to pray for the recovery of the affected area and to send love and thanks to water as a way of preventing water pollution and epidemics.
Animal Sensing
Wildlife experts were surprised at the general absence of dead animals in the flooded areas. At Sri Lanka's biggest wildlife reserve, a habitat for hundreds of wild elephants, leopards, tigers, wild boar, deer, water buffalo, monkeys, smaller mammals, and reptiles, all the animals escaped safely.
It was reported that elephants in Sumatra started trumpeting before the tsunami hit, alerting local people to the coming danger. In Thailand, elephants with tourists on their backs suddenly turned and ran away from the beach uphill. Others broke the heavy chains on their legs and stampeded. Some stopped and picked up people with their trunks, depositing them on their backs, before they ran uphill into the jungle, just beyond where the driven waves stopped.
Flamingos abandoned their low-lying breeding areas. Bats flew away just before the tsunami struck. Domestic dogs refused to go for their daily run on the beach.
Historians in China recalled that, when a strong earthquake struck a densely populated area of northeast China in 1975, multitudes of snakes came out of hibernation, giving the local people a week's notice to flee before the earthquake struck. Other animals have exhibited unusual behavior days prior to a tremor.
In Florida, scientists noted how 12 hours before Hurricane Charley struck the Gulf Coast last year, 14 electronically tagged black tip sharks off Sarasota bolted into deeper waters. They safely returned after two weeks. None had ever left its home in the four years of monitoring.
Animals’ senses tell them when danger is coming. Elephants have been known to lay their trunks on the ground to determine from which direction the stimulus is coming. Some animals are able to detect infrasound frequencies in the range of 1 to 3 hertz, and ultrasound above 20,000 hertz, compared with humans' 100 to 200 hertz range.
An earthquake generates infrasound – a long, low wave that travels great distances in the air, under water, and furthest and fastest through the ground. Many animals can hear this type of sound
The knowledge of the movement of wind, sea, and birds helped save the indigenous tribes on the Indian archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar islands from the tsunami. Even westernized humans seem to have some capacity for "feeling" sound that can't be heard.
Animals Helping
After the waves subsided, it was reported that elephants in Phuket, Thailand came down from the hill, and started picking up children with their trunks and running with them back up the hill. When all the children were taken care of, they helped the adults. Then with handlers atop, they began moving wreckage. Elephants also alerted people to injured people, animals, and their remains.
Merritt Clifton tells stories of tsunami animal heroes in the January/February issue of ANIMAL PEOPLE newspaper. Ordinary street dogs in India desperately tried to warn everyone, giving villagers time to flee and take their livestock. One dog pulled a young boy in his family by the collar up a slope away from the waves. Dogs plunged into the receding waves to pull back anyone they could of any species, including humans, cats, goats, wild blackbucks, and other dogs. Some dogs came floating back ashore after up to eight days at sea, and were greeted like surviving firefighters, after having mostly been ignored before the tsunami. Dogs were also employed to search for dead bodies. Some people took great comfort in caring for animals that survived, even when they had lost their children. python photo by Howard Dean
Near Jakarta, Indonesia, as a woman struggled to save herself and her neighbor’s twin girls in the rushing water, a large snake as long as a telephone pole swam by. The woman and the nine-year-olds clung onto the python until they landed on higher ground where they could wade ashore.
A baby hippopotamus was swept down a river into the Indian Ocean, and then was forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast. Wildlife rangers took him to an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa. The hippopotamus, who lost his own mother, bonded with a giant male century-old tortoise at the facility. The hippo and tortoise swim, eat, and sleep together. If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive as if protecting his own mother.
Animal Messages
I asked animal communicators for messages from animals regarding the giant earthquake and tsunamis.
Wendy Scott Fletcher A dolphin contacted me from the Indian Ocean, south of Sri Lanka, outside the muddy waters created by the tsunami. S/he said that it was important for us to learn from the animals in the area of the tsunami. By listening to the vibrations of the Earth, the animals were alerted to what was going to happen. Humans have lost this ability to listen and learn from their surroundings. I still see Dolphin with her head out of the water, looking towards the land, as she communicated to me:
“The area that was hit is of the Mother vibration. Is it not so that the Earth, the Mother of All, gives warning? Has it not brought compassion and a swinging of the pendulum that has been so out of whack with all the war in the Middle East? Has not the Mother spoken yet again? Your heart lies deep within you and from here is that small voice that is giving you direction and guidance about this whole matter. Listen and share.”
Hope and Restoration
Annette Betcher It is my habit to begin and end each day with a meditative prayer. At the end of the meditation I visualize light around the Earth. Sometimes I am shown areas where extra light and healing are needed. I then send those areas bright white light, green light for healing, and pink for universal love.
One morning in early December 2004, as I was meditating, I was shown an area of the world I had not been shown before in the vicinity around India. I know better than to question these visualizations so, although curious, I sent light and color to the area I was shown.
When I heard the news of the giant tsunami, I knew why I had been shown that area but I had no real conception of the vast devastation that was felt there. I was immediately caught up in the universal feelings of shock and sadness as the pictures began to come in via the media. I continued to bathe the area with white light and color.
Around the second day after the tsunami hit, I sent out a telepathic message to the area asking for animals to come forward who were willing to work with me and help me understand how I and they could be of assistance in the healing process.
It is my practice when there is a disaster claiming many lives (both animals and humans) to offer assistance to souls who need help going toward the light. The animal that came forward offering to be my guide and volunteering to answer my questions was a lovely Indian elephant. He told me to call him Morri.
I asked Morri if he could tell me what the energy was like where he was. I think I expected Morri to tell me that the energy was heavy, negative, and full of sadness and desolation. To my surprise he told me the energy was full of hope, restoration, and reclamation. He went on to explain that with disasters comes change. Morri’s area was in deep trouble before the earthquake and tsunami hit. Negative energy in the form of anger and fear was prevalent in many places. He said that wind and water are cleansing energies.
As far as Morri knew, no wild animal was killed in the earthquake. Most all of them ran, flew, or scampered to higher ground. Some of the smaller domestic animals escaped as well.
He told me that in the days to come I would witness, via the media, animals and humans working together. Morri said humans will come together to give aid in any way that they can. For a short time, prejudices will disappear, replaced by hope and understanding with humans and animals working together for the common good.
After my conversation with Morri, I had a different view of the tsunami devastation. It’s terrible and sad but it’s also a new beginning in many areas. I am so proud of my animal friends and happy I was able to get a first hand report from one of them.
A few days later I happened to catch a story on the news. I saw with my own eyes what Morri was talking about. The news broadcast was showing elephants helping humans to remove large amounts of wreckage from a heavily damaged area. Tears of pride filled my eyes as I watched the scene on TV. I wondered, if one of the elephants who I was seeing on my TV screen at that very moment was my new friend, Morri. Yes, I bet it was.
Consciousness Shift
Lyn Benedict Right after I watched the news about the tsunami, I stopped into my Naturopath’s office for some medicine for my husband. While I waited, I asked the fish in the large aquarium there if they knew about their fish friends in the area of the tsunamis. The fish said:
“Yes, we have heard from our brothers about the tsunamis. This will bring about the Earth changes that you have been looking for much more quickly. This has created a great shift in consciousness. In one way it is sad, but from the larger perspective, it is wonderful! Rejoice!”
I had been wondering if I would live to see the Earth suddenly jump into the higher state that comes about when a certain percentage of the population has reached a higher state of consciousness. I did not ask the fish that question, but it has been in the back of mind for some time. The response I got from them was very surprising to me because I was still very caught up in my feelings of empathy that had been aroused by watching the pictures on TV. I knew the fish were right and I felt strongly that this was not the end, but that there would be more large shifts to come. I did not pursue my conversation with the fish because the doctor came to help me. When I left the office, I found that the fish had greatly eased my distress over the situation.
Donna Lozito Our animals have such a clear understanding of how and just what it will take to bring earthly existence into balance. The media and pet owners have taken heed this time to what animals have shown and expressed during and after the tsunami. If this had been ten years ago, the humans might not have taken so seriously what insight the animals have given them. This is such progress for humanity.
As one horse pointed out to me, “The earth is reflecting what is brewing in the hearts of man and is unexpressed.” Another cat described, “Before we are brought to balance on this planet much imbalance will occur. This is similar to the effect of real healing where symptoms will get worse before they get better.”
Shock Reactions
Elizabeth Severino On Christmas Day in the evening, I was visiting friends with my dog, Tanuka (Cherokee Indian for "Little Bear"). Tanuka is a fourteen-year-old American cocker spaniel. He is very wise and loving, has been attuned to Reiki Master multiple times on the laps of my students as they are being attuned, and has for years been both a teaching assistant in my classes and a life teacher and companion for me.
At precisely 8:00 PM Eastern Time December 25th, a surreal energy flooded my friend’s house that dramatically changed the formerly festive air. Patsy, a three-year-old highly intuitive border collie-English Springer spaniel mix, suddenly moved extremely quickly to Tanuka. She momentarily towered over him and then suddenly attacked him. She grabbed his head in her mouth, knocking him onto his side, and pinned him to the floor.
The entire group of humans immediately got into action to handle the situation. We were all shocked. The energy of the event was extremely unusual. It felt both very significant and highly reflective of something way beyond what we were witnessing and experiencing.
Tanuka was wounded. I was too emotionally involved in helping him to hear what else he might have been saying beyond what he shared about the extent of his wounds and what he needed in order to heal.
Hours later I learned that the initial shock of the South Asian quake happened at precisely the time of the attack on Tanuka. I then realized that the animals were deeply connected to events half a planet away, which affected them so strongly that they acted out the energy. We all became a part of it as a micro reflex of a macro event.
Tanuka is now fine. His comment to me after successful surgery to repair the damage from deep wounds was:
“I will heal quickly because I have no conversation about the attack other than the expression of healing. Healing happens and suffering can be relieved when the conversations of resistance are dropped and one surrenders to allow the full expression of healing. The world has this opportunity now, too.”
Maureen Hall On the day of the tsunami, my young stallion who usually wants to be taken out at 5:30 A.M. did not want to go out of his stall or attached corral. When I asked him again, he just went over and started performing trained behaviors in his stall, letting me know that he would work right there and not go out today.
One of my parrots that I have had for 35 years became cranky and remained a little “out of sorts.” A dwarf bunny that I had just taken from my son became an attack bunny. I called my son and he said the rabbit had never behaved like that before.
The animals were able to feel the shaking of the earth that moved the Earth off its axis by an inch. It shows how much of our sensitivity we humans have lost, as well as so much of our ability to communicate telepathically. We have to practice and study in order to get it back.
Lisa Haefner My husband was a farm kid, and still works outside. He has some very hard and fast rules that he always follows. For example: if birds aren't flying, he doesn't go out. He knows there's bad weather coming. The native people of Asia recognized the signs of trouble coming. I wonder what would have been different if an animal communicator had been there?
Karla McCoy For several weeks before the big earthquake, I experienced extremes in both my interactions with the animals and within myself. The day of the tsunamis, I was dizzy and had such a headache that I had to stay in bed. The dizziness remained for several days and intermittently afterwards. I saw changes in animals such as extreme cases of aggravation and anxiety. I was attacked by a friend's dog, who is known to be unpredictable, but has never felt any anxiety towards me. He told me, he was "off balance" and it was painful. At the time, he was also having stomach and back problems.
Many animal clients reported feeling uneasy and apprehensive, pacing and being ill tempered. At the veterinary clinic where I work part time, in the weeks after the earthquake, we saw case after case of animals with spinal issues. Not only was my back bothering me, but everyone at the clinic and in my family were having back pain. The constant pressure we are putting on ourselves, the animals and the Earth cannot continue. Something must give.
Many of the animals with the spinal issues also began trembling and feeling the vibrations as I did. My dogs and my Pionus parrot trembled as well.
This corresponds with the information the animals are sending that there will be more shifting of the Earth. The Earth is vibrating and those of us who are here to help her are feeling her trembling. Yes, there will be devastation, but this is also necessary to bring peace and harmony back to Mother Earth. Our planet needs renewal and readjusting. We must all act as a chiropractor for the Earth and send her energy and love. The animals tell me we will get through this life change. It will not be easy, as with any "dis-ease.” However, if the changes are embraced and recognized, the rewards are astounding.
Joan Fox What continuing effects does this devastating event appear to have on our animal companions and each of us? This immense and focused release of Earth's energy was enough to shift Her axis. The accompanying one hundred or more aftershocks of 6.0 and greater continue to take their energetic toll on human and animal realms worldwide.
Recently, I have witnessed numerous animal clients who suddenly displayed anomalous behaviors and maladies. Animals who have been model citizens their entire lives are now "acting out" and marking inappropriately. Behavior patterns like licking and chewing of paws, which were released long ago, are now resurfacing. Some animals are biting at humans and animals whom they have known for years. Tragically, there has been a rise in seizures, sometimes resulting in death.
Aged animal companions and those with chronic health issues or terminal illness have told me that, due to the energy release created by the earthquake, a "portal" was created for them to swiftly abandon their tired and worn-out bodies. These touching messages reveal that, given their physical condition, they choose to leave their bodies now, feeling that they can be of more help from the other side.
Animals also report that they are seeing spots of "wavy" energy coming up from the earth and on their property. They see their humans bring this energy with them into their homes and, in an effort to protect their beloved friends, the animals attack it. The humans are left to believe that Fido has gone mad and is now biting and attacking everything in sight.
The alarming increase in seizures moved me to check in with the “Band of Angels” who work with me in my healing circles. I was told that the intense electromagnetic shifts have disrupted the grid-work of the planet. In turn, this abrupt shift has affected the meridians in humans and animals, resulting in electrical or "wiring" problems. Some animals have taken on temporary seizures in an attempt to re-align their energy fields with the new grid-work. Sadly, some have taken on too much and have transitioned.
About two weeks after the earthquake/tsunami, I went down to our barn for the early morning feeding. My Arab mare, Patience, paced before me, loudly slapping her lips together, thick foam dripping from her mouth. Foam was everywhere ─ on her, in the stall, and even frozen to the rails ─ all evidence that this had probably gone on for several hours. I was guided to administer appropriate energy work, essential oils, and other remedies to my obviously distraught horse. By noon she had calmed down, grounded, and re-balanced herself and was lazily munching hay. Our conversation went something like this:
"You gave me quite a scare there, dearie! Are you ready to talk about it?" I inquired.
Patience replied, "For Pete's sake, can't you FEEL it?"
"Feel what?" I asked.
"The ground! It's vibrating! It feels like it will swallow us up! You know, we animals are doing our best to facilitate this erratic energy release. Some of us see it and others feel the effects of it, but all of us are working in some way to balance and transmute it. It is causing tremendous frustration for our human companions because we all appear to be "out of sorts." We are simply trying to help.” Patience explained.
“As horrific as recent events have been, can humans not see the silver lining? This one single event has caused the entire planet to come together in Compassion and Oneness for All That Is. And to that end we gladly do our part. We come in service to the Greater Good.
“My dear Joan, in reality this energy release is just our dear Mother Earth singing her song, and we are simply harmonizing to Her melody.”
Evolution and Human Impact
Morgine Jurdan’s animal friends share their views about the earthquake/tsunami:
Beau, dog friend: “There is a great sadness among animals and people the world over. There is a loss of life, an ending and beginning anew. A great many people passed on and they will also return again, adding a new dimension to this magical place in which we all live. Know this is not the tragedy it appears to be on the surface. There is great meaning behind even the smallest things, such as a smile given freely to another. Imagine what this moment might bring forth in the coming months, years, and centuries to change the way you look at life. Love is a powerful tool which can be brought to life in the midst of chaos, and is often forgotten in the peaceful moments of rest between the storms. This is a moment of great change and a breath of fresh air for a world in need of inhaling the fragrance of change and opening new doors. All is well.”
Willie, cockatiel friend: “I was surprised at first. I experienced the people passing over and the waves of energy that reverberated around the planet. I was sad so many people died and yet there was great jubilation in their passing. So many people sent prayers of love and healing that the souls were lifted higher and higher, surrounded by much light and love. Some are anxious to return and be alive at this time of great expansion. I can see things changing outside my window. I can feel the sun, moon, and stars all vibrating differently now and how the lines which connect and weave all life together are more finely attuned with each other. Life is a dance and each step can make a difference. I look for the best in each day and smile when the sun comes up again through my window. Trust life is beautiful and all is well.”
Bimini dolphin friends: “Life is never stagnant. Creation never stops. We felt this quake coming long before it evolved into the physical. There is no feeling from us of negativity from the Earth. Releases caused by energy shifts of this kind through earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, water releasing under high pressure from geysers, and a variety of other actions are necessary for balance. In this case it involved water and that is significant. Water is consciousness. Water is the liquid which fills your bodies. Each body is like a microcosm of the Earth herself. Each cell contains within it the possibility to create an entire new universe. You are connected in ways you do not yet understand.
“Consciousness is awakening on many levels. Sometimes this occurs with individuals working on their personal journey of healing or creating more balance and wholeness in their lives. At times a mass event is required to wake people up in order to evolve to a new level. They might be asleep, not paying attention, numbed out in some way, which requires a little knocking at their door. On a deeper level, they have requested this wake up call to recognize the greater Oneness we share with each other and to be aware of the planet as a whole. This was mainly a human-centered event, as animals took shelter, knowing what was going to occur and not desiring to participate at that level. They were helping in other areas.
“There are several reasons it occurred at this time. Some involve a natural evolution. Others involve direct human impact disturbing the natural flow and rhythms of life. We liken it to installing a dam in various places, eliminating the natural rivers and streams and creating your own. While eventually things will re-balance to accommodate the changes you have forcibly made, they are not all as balanced vibrationally as what was originally there. The planet is attempting to create more balance as a result of human actions, not in retaliation but merely as a necessary adjustment to maintain balance of the whole.”
Whale friends: “Life is an evolution of consciousness on many levels in countless different dimensions. What happens here also directly affects the remaining areas. There is no way to isolate your actions from the whole. Thought produces action. Energy and vibration occur with every thought. Thoughts are as alive and real as any tree, rabbit, ocean, and air you breathe. Like energy attracts like energy, as if all the fear on the planet could be molded into a single ball. There would also be a ball of love, anger, resentment, or forgiveness. These energy patterns affect the planet, your weather, and everything which lives and breathes here with you (humans). There really is no separation on any level except perhaps in your mind. Knowledge is passed along between many kinds of beings communicating energetically with each other.
“Infinite possibilities exist. You have seen a wave of immense proportions, which is but a glimpse of what is possible on a larger scale. What seems immense to you pales in comparison to the magnificence and strength you are each capable of and into which you are growing. With your uniqueness, you will each experience this moment differently. Nonetheless, the threads which unite us all remain unbroken and spirit is shared by all. The pain, sadness, and confusion are sent to all corners of the globe and reverberate inside each cell of life. The door remains open for you to grow, expand, and learn from this moment in time, or you can shut yourself off and wait until something else comes knocking. Waking up is not always easy. You can speed up the process as you learn to love yourself more and more. Then your eyes open wider to perceive more clearly what stands before you. Your reality changes and you begin to hold hands with your family once again.”
More to Come
Paloma Baertschi-Herrera We held an animal meditation about four days after the tsunami happened. Since our monthly theme was the rainforest, I suggested that we all go to Sumatra in our meditation. After the meditation, we exchanged experiences and also asked the animals who joined us in the meditation to tell us about their experiences. All of us received the information that the animals had known of the tsunami before it happened. Some in our meditation group got the information that the tsunami was the beginning of a chain of events to reestablish the Earth's well-being.
I also received from the animals that a wave of energy hit the land before the waves even appeared on the horizon. The animals felt the energy wave and fled.
From the Earth itself I received a feeling of relief and relaxation and that now new life can grow. It felt really good.
Then I contacted the small beings responsible for diseases to ask them what was going to happen. I got a strong feeling of connection among them and that they are determined to clean the area. I asked them if they can clean the area without starting epidemic diseases. They said that if the humans help clean up, there need not be any epidemics.
In early December meditations,
I connected with an animal conference which was held deep in the rainforest.
There were many animals there, including animals who do not belong to the
rainforest. They told me that no matter which animals or regions we meditate
with, everyone benefits because we are all connected. They were discussing a
strategy to save themselves and their environment. They said something big was
going to happen soon but did not tell me what

I spent many years studying the Indonesian people and writing about them when I
was a freelance writer. I also worked with them over the internet as part of the
early efforts of the Project Bird Watch (now the Indonesian Parrot Project),
which retrains bird trappers to be ecotourism guides and facilitates local
economic support for a culture of conservation. The Indonesian Parrot Project
has been hampered by the area’s continuously tumultuous natural events,
terrorism, and civil war.
Mozart, my former Moluccan cockatoo friend, was born and flew for many years in the jungles of eastern Indonesia before coming to live with me. I now have one domestically-bred and raised Moluccan cockatoo named Happy. He is present with the spirit of Mozart, who is very often in the house giving my other parrots instruction.
Happy is somewhat of a prophet. For example, the area where we live is famous for UFO sightings. One day while hearing loud noises in the sky, he yelled to me, "Pat! UFO!”
On that fateful morning after Christmas, I went out to his studio to wake him up and he yelled out loud to me, "Pat! High water!" Then I went into the house and put on the news and listened to the first reports coming in about the tsunami. I was quite impressed with Happy's knowledge.
I asked him how he knew about the "high water" without the aid of television broadcast news. He replied, "Back tidal" in that oh-so-innocent Moluccan voice and sent me an image of the Earth with the tsunami rippling over it. I later learned that a global effect actually did happen. The earthquake affected the Earth's rotation, shifted the poles, and made the day a little longer. Eventually, a nine-inch ripple wave arrived on the Atlantic coast of the United States.
How did he know there was high water when his cage is five miles from the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay? “It was in the wind,” he said. He showed me a pennant waving in the wind, denoting teamwork, and also that the animals did try to warn the humans but, except for some indigenous tribal people, they couldn't understand the message.
Happy also said he saw a really big angel in the figure of a woman with wings outstretched really high, who was guiding all the souls to the light. He also saw a dark angel hanging upside down who guided all the hungry ghosts or distraught embodied spirits who could not move from where they were.
The pictures Happy sent me after that extended far into the future, and were like the prophecies that his predecessor Mozart made as well. They were prophecies of the Cockatoo Nation. In the face of this great tragedy, Happy started talking about ones much worse to come with the intent of putting this one in some sort of perspective, as if to comfort but also to warn.
Remember the Connection
Jacquelin Smith conferred with “The Council of Animal Souls” on the earth shifting.
“We are acutely aware of all the shifts that are taking place within and around Mother Earth. We understand that these shifts must take place, and we are doing what we can to help sustain the energetic balances of the Earth, along with the many beings of light from other galaxies and realms.
Our souls are assisting and helping humans to come to a place of surrender so they can accept the positive shifts and changes in the evolutionary (DNA) process.
Love is always the key. During this disaster, many people turned to one another and to the divine love with themselves. Within the earthquake/tsunami, a number of veils were lifted, as density dropped away. Mother Earth emerged further into the higher frequencies and dimensions of love and light in a new way! Remember the Earth's soul is evolving as is every soul. All of creation is evolving into LOVE.”
Kate Solisti-Mattelon asked The Elephants for their message after the earthquake/tsunami:
“The Earth, our Mother, wishes you to know that she is sad for the loss of human lives, but She is also sending out a call to humans to remember their connection to Her and to all beings who inhabit Her planet. It is time to listen through the heart, to feel the rhythms of all life as it pulses within and without the planet. When humans reestablish their connection, they too will know when Mother Earth is preparing to cleanse herself. Mother Earth wants her human children to listen to their older brothers and sisters, the animals, to rekindle their connection with one another. This is the opportunity Mother Earth offers at this time. The souls of all lost human lives will reenter the Earth plane if they so choose. There are cycles within cycles. All is in balance. Remember.”
Dawn Baumann Brunke communicates Polar Bear wisdom (from Timeless Spirit magazine, March 2005):
"Regards to all those reading this, from the Polar Bears/Bearers of Energy of Point Barrow, Delegates to the United Planet of All Beings, Teachers of Polar Bear Medicine and Wisdom"
"Many animals are planning, preparing themselves, and realigning their interior energies, for changes in the Earth. We do not sense the disasters that are so currently a focus of fear with humans. Rather, our focus is one of conscious awakening. We walk hand in hand; paw in paw, with other creatures of the land and, yes, with you, the human people, as well.
"We are all pieces of a huge mosaic of planet Earth. As one individual or group of beings opens, another is touched, and then another, and another, and so on, until the pattern becomes a living awareness ─ an awakening of which we are all part and parcel, One in which we are truly a United Planet of Beings.
Penelope: It’s now been several months since the 9.0 quake rocked the Earth. Three weeks before the event, I experienced back muscle spasms for three days, unusual for me and so severe that I spent most of my time confined to bed, accompanied by visions and quantum leaps in spiritual growth. Migraine headaches increased in frequency weeks before and after the event.
After December 26th, I experienced the surges, pulses, and pressures of earth and ocean, and the whales showed me what was happening under the surface. Visions of future earth and water waves came in startling detail. Since then, new visions have shown me the effects of millions of people praying for peace and a gentler evolutionary force to help us awaken. These prayers and uplifted intentions appear to have assisted the Earth in releasing the cleansing energy in less “human life disrupting” earthquakes around the world.
We are wise to listen to the wisdom of our animal guides from all directions. We are becoming more palpably conscious that we’re all in this together as we tremble and shake, stay grounded and evolve (what a process!) with all of life on our beloved Mother Earth.
